Bulgarian football nationals prep for qualifying rounds
All games have equal bearing, declared national
team coach Stanimir Stoilov and team manager Nasko Sirakov prior to the first
game. “The coach shares the same views with us,” assured team captain Dimitar
Berbatov in Geneva.
The nationals have raised the bar before the first game of the
qualifying rounds. The coach and the manager assured that all games would have
equal bearing and the team would put in equal effort. The first game is against
Switzerland tonight (BNT, 21.30 Bulgarian time). In Geneva Berbatov assured that
the players and the coach share the same views. In Switzerland Stoilov said, “I
am interested in the score and the game alike. I hope they see the true face of
Bulgaria.” After the first training session Berbatov said, “I don’t remember it
ever being easy. The new old coach talked to me in the changing rooms, we
wished each other best of luck and I hope…I think we have the same goals and we
can achieve them together.” Bulgarian Football Union president Borislav
Mihailov also harbors great expectations. “This is the first game with the
participation of the tried-and-true Stoilov-Sirakov tandem in a long time. I think
Stoilov is the best expert in Bulgaria and I hope he has luck with the nationals.” The second game in the
qualifying rounds tonight is Ireland vs. Georgia (Dublin, 21.45). Ireland is competing for second place in the rounds. Giovanni Trapatoni and his
assistant Marco Tardelli are playing to win so they make it into the spring
series of 2 games in 4 days against Bulgaria and Italy. Our future games include one on March 28 in Dublin and a
home game against Cyprus in Sofia on April 1.
