After the tragedy in Asenovgrad and the protests in front of the Polish embassy in Sofia, our ambassador Ivan Naydenov will check on the little girl in Poland.
Nicoleta was taken away by force from her Bulgarian father upon the request of her mother, who is Polish, stated European affairs minister Gergana Passy on national TV. The girl is staying with her mother’s parents in Poland. The Bulgarian Child Protection Agency submitted a request to Polish authorities. A Polish TV channel aired footage of a smiling Nicoleta, playing with toys and saying how happy she is in Poland. Today the children’s father Todor Vassilev will procure a document, verifying that he took his children out of Poland with his wife’s consent, thereby refuting kidnapping accusations. There was a real tragedy on May 28 in Asenovgrad, when Barbara Vassilev tried to take the children away from their father. The Pole and her husband are separated but not divorced. The 8-year old girl and her 7-year old brother Pavel did not want to go with their mother, who took them by force in the presence of a bailiff and social service employees. There was physical assault and the father lay down in front of the car, after which the boy ran away. He is still missing. Pavel and Nicoletta lived in Asenovgrad for two years after Todor brought them back from Poland. Barbara appealed before a Polish court, claiming they’d been kidnapped. Charges were filed in Bulgaria under The Hague Convention. A judge ruled to take the children back to Poland. Todor will fight till the end. He has received wide support from the Bulgarian community with 2000 people protesting in his favor in front of the Polish embassy in Sofia.
