“After so many years in power president Georgi Parvanov has finally realized that the time for pragmatic leadership has come. I am in direct contact with (Russian PM) Putin and he is jealous!” countered the prime minister after the president’s attacks on his (purportedly non-existent) policy in the energy sector.
“I don’t see how there can be a smooth transition when I inherited nothing. The previous government did nothing at all with Belene, Nabucco and South Stream other than make empty promises, three groundbreaking ceremonies and destroy what little was achieved before. Throughout the world the opposition makes judgments about the majority’s actions after at least 100 days of its mandate has passed. The president told Bulgarians nothing about four years of failure, squandering money and robbery on the part of the triple coalition that he helped form,” Borisov said. “In just 40 days (of being in power) we got SAPARD funds back, we’ll have another 200 000 by the end of the year, we got a positive evaluation from Dow Jones, we saved 2000 ha of woodland after banning construction, we completed the subway in Sofia, we relaunched the Gorna Adra hydro-project, we demonstrated excellent teamwork in the context of the tragic incident in Macedonia, we gained immense trust, we charged former ministers and agency heads with committing crimes, and I established direct contact with Vladimir Putin. All these facts cause purely human jealousy to arise, which is something that I understand,” Borisov added.
