Pawel Samecki, EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, will hold another visit to Bulgaria to inspect EU-funded projects on Thursday and Friday.
Samecki will visit the northeastern and southeastern regions of the country for a first-hand look on implementing EU cohesion policies and whether they are helping improve the standard of living and providing support for local businesses. He will also review several EU-funded projects, including educational, environmental and social developments in the seacoast regions of Varna and Bourgas. He will travel with public works minister Rosen Plevneliev and environment minister Nona Karadjova. “Between 2007 and 2013, Bulgaria will benefit from EUR 9 billion in EU funds for economic, social and rural development. Cities like Varna and Bourgas can use this support to become growth-engines for their areas and for the surrounding regions,” he stated prior to his visit.
Samecki will comment on the progress of other infrastructure projects, including plans to repair a kindergarten and primary school, a sewage construction project in Dolno Ezerovo, to which the EU has contributed EUR 2,7 million, and the improvement of regional road infrastructure.
In Varna, he is scheduled to meet local businessmen and municipal advisers. A quarter of the funding earmarked for the region – EUR 1 B – has already been allocated toward the present time.
