Deputy minister of culture Dimitar Dereliev, who authorized the acquisition, was a member of New Boyana Film AD Directors’ Board at the time and as such is considered biased.
He signed the sale contract on October 5, 2009. According to New Boyana Film Dereliev donated film costumes and props to the National History Museum, which were worth over 50 000 euro, but the company received just 4000 leva at the time when Evgeni Mihaylov was director. Mihaylov has demanded that Dereliev resign as deputy minister of culture. New Boyana Film considers the deal unfeasible. Boyana Film was sold for 5 million euro. Mihaylov believes the studios were worth around 90 million. He has also accused Dereliev of not establishing a Bulgarian Film Foundation and cutting the state film budget by half in 2010. “I am sure that culture minister Vezhdi Rashidov is well-informed about other issues, but when we met him he asked Dereliev about what the law stipulated. Clearly Dereliev is the man in charge over there,” Mihaylov concluded.
