Interview by Elizabeth Dafinova
-
Is Martin Zaimov the authentic right-wing candidate
for mayor of Sofia?
-
He was a compromise. He is not a politician but a bank expert.
The right wing doesn’t have strong figures and new leaders. The ‘democratic’
ideology is a thing of the past.
-
On the other hand, it is good that the democratic
fractions are uniting…
-
Of course, our country must stand on two legs, not a left one
and a right artificial limb. And a Turkish thing hanging in the middle and
fucking everyone. But I am not optimistic about Zaimov. Boyko Borisov will win
because no one is strong enough to stand up to him.
-
What is the socialist party indicating by nominating
General Asparuhov?
-
Nothing. After Asparuhov left Parliament because he was so
naïve as to become Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha’s adviser on security issues he
lost everyone’s respect. Now he is back to face off against Borisov pro forma.
The BSP is also facing a serious crisis with its political figures. Their
members died on the road to democracy – a lot of great boys and girls were
thrown out because they couldn’t steal, they couldn’t negotiate with thugs, they
couldn’t betray their ideals. Brigo is very informed and knows what to say
against Borisov. It will have great bearing, coming from a top police official.
The BSP needs to appoint a good group of municipal advisers to protect its
interests and hopes to achieve this through Brigo. After that he’ll probably
end up heading the Bulgarian FBI, or he will become an ambassador. The Russian
and German secret services know everything about him. Brigo still invokes
respect, but he’ll end up eating his own shit
- his ex-DS colleagues won’t forgive him for turning his back on them.
-
Do you think the outcome of the battle for mayor of
Sofia is predetermined?
-
It is to me. But it will be fun to watch. Titi Papazov
(national basketball team coach and candidate for mayor) has more public
support, but there are rumors that other grey cardinals are backing him. That
is only natural. If someone has nominated him that person will have to cough up
at least 2 million leva for his campaign. These cardinals have immense resources.
The mafia in Sofia is the biggest one in the country. If all the parties backed
Titi it would be harder for Boyko, because Papazov is really loud. Whereas this
bank expert, a boring yuppie, has never made a public speech. He was always in
the grey area of politics and he will find it hard to stand up to Borisov.
-
Do you expect mudslinging? There have been rumors…
-
There is no way around it – Sofia is a country within the
country. Boyko’s dirty laundry will be aired out. The skeletons in Zaimov’s
closet will also see the light. His father is British, an English communist and
a KGB agent.
-
Will we know whether there are going to be premature
Parliament elections after the local ones?
